NUTTERS STORE FRONTS

Nutters' primary logo does not often fit many store fronts without needing additional structural support or leaving too much empty space, so the logo was adapted into a horizontal layout. The brand's red commands attention to the storefront and the signature leaves are included as decals on the windows.

For each store front design project, I start with a photograph of an empty store or with the existing signage. I then mock-up the building in Adobe Illustrator. Once the mock-up is complete I begin to test different arrangements for signage and window decals.

The store above was a unique challenge. The left side of the building had doors that were unusable, so customers needed to be directed to the main doors. To do this, I covered the unusable doors in a large leaf graphic to make it harder to recognize as an entrance. Additionally by placing the Nutters logo on the right, it made it easier for customers to distinguish the right side as the main entrance.

The small windows on this store were a bit of a shakeup to the usual branding approach to storefronts. Most store's windows are long a narrow leaving lots of room at the bottom for leaf decals. Product categories were a priority to the leaves were moved to the top windows only.

The store below is an example of when the primary logo can be used with minor modifications. There was plenty of room for the primary logo to sit in the peak.

The location below was one of the few stores I did not get to work on from start to finish. A third party contractor had developed most of the signage and selected the building colours. If I could change anything, I would have recommended to not use all of the brand's colours on the exterior. While eye-catching, the colourful exterior does not communicate the calm wellness store inside. It's a bit too overwhelming.

I was able to design the window decals. I chose to leave some of the windows open to allow for more light to come into the store and give the downtown foot traffic a good view into the store's open floor plan. Because of the open floor plan and lighting I also had to add a background to the lettering on the windows so they wouldn't get lost when reading from afar.
